Image of treble staff with low F# notes on the staff. Text is Thumb, 1st finger, 2nd finger, 3rd finger on the left hand; 2nd finger, 3rd finger on the right hand. Image created by M. Grayburn To play F# (pronounced F sharp), use the fingerings for G and add the "I Love You" sign in sign language with the right hand. Image of a treble staff with two sharps at the beginning of the staff. The first sharp is on the F line; the second sharp is in the C space. Image by M. Grayburn When you see sharps (#) or flats (b) at the beginning of the staff, look for the center of the sharp or flat. It will either be on a line or a space. For example, a sharp crossing the fifth line of the staff, which is the F line, means that all F's in the song will be F#. Play as if you were singing the song. Connect your notes with a du, du, du or tu, tu, tu tonguing technique. |
Image of dotted quarter note equals quarter note plus eighth note, Text on image is Dotted Quarter Note. What is the value of the note without the dot? One beat. What is half of the value of the note without the dot? 1/2 beat. 1 plus 1/2 equals 1 1/2. A dot adds half the value of the note. Image created by M. Grayburn. A tied note is like a math problem. Take the value of the first note and add the value of the seond note. Hold the tied note for the value of BOTH notes added together. See...Music is Math!!! |
Read and perform the notes on the staff with correct rhythms, observing correct note durations, fingering, and positioning. Play G, A. and B using correct articulation and fingering. Play low D correctly (remember it requires LESS air). Use both hands in the correct position. Play tied notes correctly. Play dotted rhythms correctly, use full range of the recorder. Use a legato style of playing. Make it musical! You are doing a great job! |
